Nigeria's U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have advanced to the semi-finals of the 2023 U-20 AFCON with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Uganda's Hippos. The seven-time champions also secured a spot at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup thanks to their victory.

The Hippos dominated the early exchanges and came close to scoring on two occasions, with goalkeeper Chijoke Anigboso forced to make a crucial save to keep Nigeria in the game.

However, the Flying Eagles gradually grew into the match but struggled to create any clear-cut chances. It wasn't until the 30th minute that they finally took the lead, with Ibrahim Juma inadvertently turning the ball into his own net after Ibrahim Muhammad's effort had hit the post.

Muhammad came close to doubling Nigeria's advantage shortly after the restart but his effort missed the target by inches.

The Ugandans continued to press forward, with Anigboso and Benjamin Frederick putting in a solid defensive performance to keep them at bay.

Nigeria will now face the winner of the quarter-final tie between Gambia and South Sudan in the semi-final on Monday.
